What to do with used oil?
Well I finally have moved out of my apt. and have purchased my own home. Which means I can take a carck at working on my car myself. I think I have all the tools I need now for routine matience however i was wondering what do I do with my used oil / filters? I realize ofcourse I could pour it down the drain but that really isin't my style. Also I just picked up a set of these Rhino Ramps at auto zone to do my oil changes with. Just seemd to suit me better than a jack would. Is that a bad Idea? Would a good floor jack still be a good investment? Thanks !!!!

Take it back to Autozone. I believe that if they sell oil, the have to take back used oil. Most Autozones in this area take the used oil

+1 on the autozone and for how cheap jacks are, you might as well get one cuz you'll definitely find a need for it in the future.

Just wanted to add that any of the places that change oil will accept your old oil. Jiffy Lube, Autozone, or any shop you don't like-leave it at the door step at night.

I just pour it back in the qt bottles...wrap them in some plastic bags and chuck it in the next dumpster I see. You have to make sure all your reciepts are out though....

I religiously take it back to a parts store to have it recycled. Back in my younger days I wasn't that worried about it and would toss it. As I got older and wiser I figure there's plenty of people trashing the planet so I would try to keep my share down to a minimum.

If you put it in the ground it seeps back into the groundwater and you end up drinking it. Same thing with putting it in the dumpster-they compress the stuff and it busts open the bottles. It's so easy to just drop it off somewhere-all kinds of places are required to take it. Or just save the rest of us the trouble and go ahead and drink it-cuts out the middle man delay thing.
