I have a 99 Trans Am WS-6. I would like the car to break into the 12's. What are good things to do to get there?

If it's a 6 speed put a pro 5.0 in it, a cut out, lid, sticky rear tires, free mods and drive it hard.

How far into the 12's are you looking to go? How fast are yoyu going now? If you are just looking into high 12.s free mods, lid, maybe cut-out and Drag radials should do it. The car shouldn't be that far off to begin with. 3.23 or 2.73 geared? Lid, stall, headers, tune, and DR's should put you into the mid to low 12's.

Well, currently I am having problems with it (see the car runs like crap thread). Also I am new to this so could you explain what free mods, lid and cut out are?

Do a Google search on LS1 free mods. A lid is the air filter housing cover. You want a performance one like this:

Cut out is an exhaust cut out that you can open to bypass the muffler and most of the exhaust piping.

ok. My car car does have a lid on it right now. I just ran a 14.65 at 99mph on a gtech with a 150lb passenger. my 60' time was 2.47. Something is definetly not right

Sometimes the G-Techs are off. They need to be calibrated perfectly. Go to a track to get hard numbers then work from there.

Don't waste your money on a Hypertech. You can spend the money on different stuff that will add more power, or help it out. I would do Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and then go from there. Maybe Subframe connectors or stickier tires.

I cleaned the MAF this morning. I took it out and it ran a 13.77 and 13.78 at 107mph. I'm on the road to recovery. I am going to put new plugs and wires on it this afternoon. Any particular plug wires I should try?

Anyone? What is a subframe connector? Also, what are some good tires to get?

Thats good that the MAF cleaning helped. Now, Subframe Connectors or SFC for short, go underneath the car. THey either bolt or weld which ever you want to buy, to the frame of the car. F-Bodies or (Trans Am/Camaro) are uni-bodied cars. The SFC's strenghten up the frame and make it more rigid. This lets the car soak up less power through flex and transfer it to the wheels better. Now on to plugs, you good just go ACDelco replacements. They are cheap and will work better over old plugs. Hope that helps.

Tires, that depends. I love my old GSD3's from Goodyear. They are a nice street tire that hooks decent and wears decent. But if your wanting to be a track master, then I would say a Drag Radial or Slick. Might want to stay away from the Slicks until your rear end is built for it. But alot of guys are running Nitto 555R Drag Radials. They will hook better then the GSD3's most of the time but they wear faster also.
