Unhappy What is this crap?? Knock Sensor and wrong Mileage??

I posted this on another board without a lot of feedback. Does anyone know about the knock sensors or about my mileage misread?

"Ok I am headed down town Houston today to meet up with some friends. I decide to get the car out cause its a nice day. Well on the way down there My SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT comes on? Luckily one of the guys I am meeting with is my girls cousin who has a muffler shop downtown where I am headed. They also do some other mechanical work as well. So when I get there he tells me well lets hook it up and see what the scoop is. We hook it up and it says that it is a knock sensor??? He says that it really isn't a big deal, but eventually I should change it. So I say where is it and how hard is it to change it. He tells me it is under the intake??? Can anyone tell me anything about this. He says the car is fine and will be fine, it is just a bad sensor????? Is this right?

Also, my car just rolled 37,000 miles on the odometer so its not covered under warranty but here's the funny thing..... his computer was telling him that my car was only reading 25,463 miles??? He said that was weird and that he had never seen that before. Has anybody come across this before?"

What do you guys think? I bought this car when it was 6 months old.

hmm...the mileage thing is weird, but the knock sensor is under the intake manifold like he said. Take the manifold off and replace it

I'm not for sure but I have a truck that has tons of miles on it but the computer and odometer only show 27000 because I unhooked one wire.Maybe the previous owner knew this trick too..

So then if the car had been wrecked and they bought a used instrument cluster, it would show the used insturment cluster's miles instead of the cars actual miles?? As far as I know though, the car has never been wrecked. Or at least that is what the dealership told me when I bought it at 6 months old. I do know that the car came from the border town of El Paso, TX. Something is definitely fishy here ... Anybody else have any input?? PLEASE!!

Well it could be that they wanted to show lower miles noy because of a wreck. They could have also broken the cluster while working on the dash too.

the problem Lawdog is that it shows more miles (37,000 roughly) on the electronic odometer than the car reads plugged into a diagnostics computer (25,000 roughly). I am just trying to figure out how that could be???
Does anyone know, if they did change the cluster from another car, if it would show those miles and not the actual mileage on my car?? Anyone...Anyone...Bueller....Bueller.....

Everything looks normal. How can I tell if it is not the one that came with the car from the factory??

he said all computers come from the factory with a sticker across the plug that you'll tear if you remove the plug or even just try and peel it off.If that is not there the computer has been changed.

well the only thing I see is a small white sticker on the end that is probably
1"x1" . Is that what he is talking about? I do not see any other stickers on or around it.
