Red- 2001 Trans Am
What brand of gear oil/tranny oil to use?
I want to change the gear oil and the transmission oil in my 6spd t/a. I would like to stick with the the fluid that GM uses. What brand do they use? Do I have to get it at a dealership? How much $$ am I looking at? I just don't want to get screwed over too bad.

Any Dexron III will work for the tranny. Dealership will sell you AC Delco fluids. I use Redline D4 synthetic ATF in the tranny and any dino 80/90 gear oil in the diff.

Whatever you use DO NOT use the new DEX VI. It will cause damage to our T56's.

It's ok. We use AMSOIL in all the race cars. I also use the RedLine in the rear ends with the clutch type posi's.
The synthetic blends withstand heat alot better.
The fluid your talking about is GM's Syncromesh part #12345349 you should be able to get it for 9.99-12.99 a quart.
Penzoil makes a direct copy which is cheaper and Tremec will tell you to buy it.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
