I had the problem for about a year until I put the LTs+catted y on mine and when we took off the old y-pipe you could shake it and hear something rattling inside the cat. The fix? I don't know unless you replace the cat. I shook mine pretty hard but what ever was loose in there was to big to fall out. Just get use to it I guess.

Make sure that's what it is first - try tapping on them with a rubber mallet when cold to verify. If one is coming apart GM is now covering them for 10yrs/120K. If you have a SES light get it scanned.

Stop by somewhere that'll read codes free like Auto Zone, etc. Don't know if they can read history codes if the light is off? - but P0420 and P0430 remain in "history" for 40 ignition cycles. Visit www.gearchatter.com and look up the above codes for your year for more info.

P0420 is for the drivers side cat if the code was thrown. I'd still get it scanned/wait for the SES to verify before contacting the dealership for free replacement. Don't want to find out it's something else and have them charge you. Here's the letter in case you need it: http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/4605/gmletterle2.jpg

If you don't have any loss of power or driveability problems I'd continue driving - if the light comes on have it read. Like I said earlier don't know if their scanners can read history codes once the light goes back off. Still could be something else. Just didn't want you to bring it to the dealer for a cat if that wasn't the problem. Buddy of mine just got the P0420 code, no aparent rattle - dealer replaced it free.

Double check and make sure it isnt any of your o2 sensors. Sometimes they can loosen and rattle.
