    Very high oil pressure

i have yet to drive the car today before this quick trip but i just drove to my parents, 3 minute drive and when i pulled in front of the my pressure was just under 80. i hit a bout 3/4 throttle til 40 mph but my car doesnt shift higher than 3.5k unless at wot. and when i shut the car off the gauge still reads at 60. right now it shows 60 still after 15 minutes of sitting. the only recent thing that i think might have affected it is the oil sending unit was changed when i did the intake manifold about a month ago. i used about 1/8" thick teflon tape(i literally wrapped it until it was barely over 1/8' thicker between both sides) around the threading and hand tightened. should i go aheady and try and find the proper socket for the osu and reinstall it??? oh and i dont see or feel any oil leaks either yet.

ok current situation is new OSU is in and torqued down to 22 ft lbs. but prior to the original mishap the oil pressure would sit nicely at 35 at idle and never go higher than 50 no matter the rpm. now it idles at 42-43 and will get up to about 60 at 3k what must be dont to return the pressure to what it was or are those ranges not a bothersome thing.

Sounds like one of your two sensors (either the old one of the new one) wasn't reading properly.

The readings of the new sensor sound about right.

well ill find out what the pressure is at higher rpms and report to see if it is still at a decent pressure. BTW ho high of oil pressure is too high? if i can i would like to get the pressure to what it was before. that is if its possible. ill try to check the pressure after this oil change though.

Why would you want lower oil pressure?? Thats not beneficial at all. Oil pressure on the higher end of the spectrum means a healthy engine.

Your oil pressure will never be too high unless your oil pump relief valve is sticking. And if that happens, it would be very high, pegging the gauge much of the time.

thats what tripped me out in the first place because it was pegging the past 2 days until i redid the OSU. i guess ill just see if it does anything after the oil change and high rpm check does anything wierd. which i hope it doesnt lol.
