    Valve Cover Issue

Ok folks, I have another issue. I bought some Holley LS valve covers (Part No. 241-88). They are the ones that are designed for the blaster coils to mount directly on the valve cover without the use of the coil brackets. The problem is that the blaster coils don't fit. The blaster coil mounting hole is about a 1/4" short of the distance between the mounting holes on the valve cover. Any ideas? Do any of you know of a blaster coil that is bigger than the OEM blaster coils?

I just glanced through my Summit catalog and found nothing. Possibly the wrong covers with the right number?

You might need the brackets after all.

Well, here's the deal on that. The old bracket mount holes don't fit the hole pattern of the valve cover coil mount holes either.

This is very weird. I have never heard of anything like this before. Maybe for a different LS motor?

Hey Rich. Would you happen to know or would anybody else know the center to center distance of the mounting holes on MSD blaster coils (Part No. 82458)?

I don't know, unfortunately. I have never heard of aftermarket valve covers being fabbed up and not being compatible with their own coils.

I've got the 241-90 covers and I'm trying to figure out how to get the PCV system set up since there's no place for the valve on the driver side cover. Any ideas??

Hi Jay. Hey, could you do me a favor? Would you mind measuring the center to center distance on a pair of holes that you would be using for the blaster coils?

I'll be using the stock coils. Shouldn't be any difference. I'll measure them anyway.

Also, I still need to know what the center to center distance is for the mounting holes on a MSD 82458 blaster coil.

I was reading my latest issue of GMHTP and there was a Holley ad and it read that the covers use standard or upgraded LS3 coils. Hope this helps.

That's what I'm hearing over on LS1Teach. Does anyone have any idea how i could get who sels them and what the part no's would be. Because I have had 0 luck finding any information on them. And the wire harnesses too. Because the wire harnesses will be different also. You're not going to believe this. I posted this question over on LS1Tech last night. I checked the post a minute ago. About 50 people viewed it and one guy answered. You know what he said? "No one is going to give you an answer because you have only had 6 post and you have only been a member since last December!" I couldn't believe it! They are a bunch of assholes over there.

    Rich, you read?

    Cowstandmoto,
would you mind posting a picture with somekind of reference object at the point with the size discrepancy? Like a quarter or a small ruler?
I have an idea that might work; hollow dowel-ends that you can tap, maybe?

Well, found out LS1 coils will not fit on the new Holley valve covers. Called therm and was told that ONLY LS3/LS6 coils will fit. Too expensive for me to replace coils, so looks like I'll be sending the covers back. Ticks me off that the advertising says all LS engines. Don't really want to do the coil relocation as i still have EGR and it's really tough to get them under the cowl with it there. Maybe I can get my coli brackets plated or chrome powder coated. My stock valve covers are already polished.

This whole thing really ticks me off!

Planemech, yeah. The ads say LS3 coils. It's in small print, however. So I understand your position. I would be upset too.

Oh, I know it Jay. It sucks! I've gone ahead an ordered LS3 coil packs from Rockauto.com. And what I think are going to be the wire harnesses for the coils. Yeah, if you do powder coat the brackets and with your valve covers already polished, that will look good.

They still have an intact reputation. This is why I've never been to that sight. Glad you got your answer about the coil mount issue.
