Valve Cover 97/98 Z28
Folks, please help me out with a part number or link for OEM/aftermarket dressed up perimeter bolt style valve covers for my 98.
The 97/98 are unique with perimeter bolts and I can't find an LS1 set up anywhere. I have relocated coils to get past a header heating problem and now need a decent looking set of valve covers.
The Chevy Competition covers don't come in a perimenter bolt pattern according to JEGS and GEN I, so I am stuck.
Thank you for the help!

I would like to avoid replacing the heads as I have a lot of money in the motor as it is. This may be my only option, and I'll just have to hope my mods will still work in the new heads.
There has to be a clean perimeter bolt valve cover option out there somewhere...at least that is my hope.
Thank you for your response.

You may just have to customize your existing covers. Have you thought about that????? Clean them up and paint them a nice color to match your engine bay or whatever you choose.......

Actually from what I've studied, stock 98 heads are very good heads. You can have a 10,11,12 second cam only vehicle with these heads. In fact, the 243 stockers vs the 241 stockers are ALMOST identical throughout the RPM range. Differences are between 3-8 horsepower on most dynos. Obviously as you add more hi-po parts, the difference becomes larger and the separation begins to show.
Not disagreeing with you Shady, 98's are at the bottom of the pack in terms of uprgraded head choices and what's out there..........
Trust me, if I had the money, I'd be all over some Trick Flow 215's or AFR's!!!

are you sure you arent thinking of the 853 vs 241s ? as the 243s will net you over 10 to the floor un-ported ....the 853s and the 241s are actually the same head..with minor..and i mean minor adjustments/differences..the biggest being the center mount points for the valve covers

Navy Blue Metallic- `98 Formula M6 HdTp
806's (97-98) are the original LS1 head
853's (99-early 00) were the first revision with center bolt valve covers
241's (late`00-04) are the same except for the casting process
Stock for stock there is NO reason to swap one for another.
243's are different story.Craig

I think that's a great idea and direction to go in. I mean, we both have the 97-98covers and at SOME POINT I certainly plan to upgrade to a LS6 stage 2.5 head or Trick Flows. So, why spend alot of money and effort, when the stock head is kind of holding us back from more power. Let us know when you get your current covers cleaned up. Take care.
