Unlock Tire Inflation Caps
I know its stupid, but I'm really having a problem.
IS there any theft protection on the new C6 style rims that would prevent me from getting the tire pressure cap off? I need to inflate my tires but the thing just spins and doesn't come off...
I don't know whether this falls into Corvette, General Help, Or tires/wheels.Last edited by eautocad; 10-25-2007 at 11:44 AM.

I would take it off, put the spare on. Take it up to a tire shop and have them pull the valve stem out and put a new one in.

I should invest in a spare tire for future dilemmas, I'm glad you mentioned b/c I checked and there was none!
Welp, I got them off! If you hold the little black socket style piece as you twist the cap off(part of tire stem cap that contacts tire stem). It appears you need to use the standard cap at first glance, but theres really a hidden part of the cap that is what actually adjoins the stem and cap. Very good GM! I like the security feature, b/c ricers will get pissy and deflate your tires.

Does it look like this?
I'm wondering because you said the "socket" part was loose... if it is that is the reason you have a flat.

wow great pic yes it is very similar but it has the corvette logo in the center. They were kinda tough to get off, I'm glad I replaced them with the standard twist on-off chrome caps. Who cares if someone lets air out of my tire.

those aftermarket caps with the logos on them let the hex part just spin. theft deterent. just under the hex is another tiny plastic hex nut that actually removes the cap itself. when you buy the caps, they come with a tiny plastic 'wrench' to remove them.

Just so yah know those are air pressure sensors. (TPMS - Tire Pressure Monitoring System) They would tell the computer (in the Corvette the wheels came off of) when you had a flat tire and a little warning light would show up on the dash. No harm in having them in a non-TPMS car though.

If ya want... not sure how much they'd be worth but normal valve stems are like... 5 bucks for 4 (maybe free at some tire shops)
