    Trunk Lift

Does anyone know how to change out the trunk lifts on a 2000 Z28 ?

Are you talking about the two lift cylinders ? If so, there's a metal snap clip that needs removed on each end...Small straight screw driver...

    Thumbs up

Thanks the spring clip I found out is the easy part. The other end is a T-50. I started the project today to discover that the lifts that I bought won't work. So I'll have to wait on this project.

    Thanks for the reply!

Replacing the gas (shock like) cylinders that keep the trunk lid open. It doesn't pop open anymore to I wanted to replace them.

The gas shocks have nothing to do with the lid popping open, they just keep the lid from closing while opened.
The spring that pops it open may need a helper spring added. Simple 5 minute fix.

The lid unlatches and opens, the lift's then help the lid open all the way. My lid opens OK it just doesn't open all the way. Hey it's a 2000 with 70K on it I can't complain.

I am not familiar with any springs, with the problem that I am having. Someone earlier mentioned springs on the latch.

Yeah, what he was talking about earlier was the release latch spring is rather weak. After a while when you pop the trunk it may take two tries or so to be able to lift the trunk.

The shocks do nothing for the initial release of the trunk, its a spring (open the trunk and pull back the center liner where the hood latches). You'll see a spring.

You can buy a replacement at home depot or lowes that's compact enough to pop the trunk free again. If your trunk opens and holds fine once lifted, I would replace that spring first. I believe you can search the site and find a write up.

Just replacing the spring won't necessarily fix it.

I put the helper spring on mine just like the above write-up described and my hatch still wouldn't pop open.

Had to replace the hatch struts and now all is OK.

My hatch would stay open at the top but would not hold up in any other position.

It would always sink back down. My struts were just too weak.

    10 minute (and $50) fix.
