Transmission Troubles!

I have a 95 Z28 A4, and my transmission is not working properly. When im in park, its actually reverse, Reverse is still reverse, neutral is neutral, and drive is drive. So basically I don't have a park gear. The gears in drive are shifting up and down normally. The electrics in the car still acknowledge park as park (So I have to turn off my car and start my car in reverse). And because it is in park, when im backing up the reverse lights don't turn on.

So, how bad does this sound? It really hasn't shown any major problems

I can post up a picture of the mechanics underneath the shifter if it is necessary.

Maybe a bent linkage, like your car is stuck in both park and reverse and not completely in park or reverse? You're going to have to pull the console and look from up top and get underneath the car and see if there is anything bent. Could possibly be the selector button on the shifter. Could be worn out or broken and keeping the shift lever from going all the way up to P. Keep us posted.
