    transmission question

    sorry if i posted this in the wrong section ...but i wanted to know if anybody knows what "gmpt 4l60e" means the guy i bought it from says its a "racing tranny" its got red paint on it i couldnt see the numbers but ill get em tommarrow when i get to work and put it on the lift.

    GMPT stands for General Motors Powertrain and 4l60e is the type of tranny. If they only changed the internals and re-used the stock case I don't believe the part numbers on it are going to help.

    thanks i kno what a 4l60e not trying to be rude or anything u im trying to figure out if its trully aftermarket or not but i guess the gmpt indicates that it is not

    The 4L60E is an electronic version of the 700-R4. It breaks down as follows:

    4 - Four forward speeds
    L - Longitudinal mount
    60 - Series of transmission
    E - Electronic control

    no the shop got busy which is a good thing for me i get more money but bad since i didnt get a chance to put her in the air ...my boss is convinced its stock with a shift kit but he is more of a mustang guy or so he claims
