TPI OR Throttle Body???

I have a 2000 WS6. I assumed that it came stock with a throttle body. I was showing the engine off the other day talking about porting the throttle body and a friend of mine said that I do not have a throuttle body on my car it is TPI? What is the difference between the two. Is TPI better? How can I tell them apart?

Your buddy is confused, TBI is throttle body injection- old technology and is no longer used. TPI is tuned port injection- the next generation like the IROC had in the late 80's. You have a throttle body on the front of your intake (it's the butterfly that the throttle cable opens and closes) and is now called a multi-port injection or MPI or MPFI I believe. TBI was a carb looking thing on top just like a carb. You can and should have it ported and then show it to him.

Cool.. I have read many threads in here and never once heard someone talk of TPI & the WS6 model. Thanks for the info.

All LS1's have a throttle body from the factory.
