Are you sure? I know on my 99 I had to fabricate the wiring for the steering wheel controls. The wiring is part of the existing wire harness.
You have two harnesses on the back of the stereo. You need both. You don't have a dedicated harness for the steering wheels controls.
Now both of my cars are/were Camaros. Where the Firebird harnesses different?

The camaro and firebird should be the same, Cause its the same gm delco stereo. I have a 00 camaro and i had three harnesses. The two connected to the after market adapter, And i just did not connect the third. So when i had everything in, The only thing that didn't work was the steering wheel switches.

huh, i unplugged my stereo just the other day. I had the same two connectors as my 99. weird.
no i am intrigued to go pull it apart, well tomorrow when its not dark.
you can see pics i posted on car domain of my 99 wiring fabing
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2954870
near the bottom you can see my hand and 2 connectors, a white one and black on. I only needed to add 2 wires for the controls, power and ground. I am adding the new wires to the white connector not the black.
well if you have three spots to plug stuff in, then i guess the answer plug it in, .

well i have two connectors. the one in you picture looks like the one that plugs into the slot next to the antenna. I have no idea what it does. I thought I had a diagram somewhere of all the wires for both connectors.
well i had both connectors on both Camaros. I can definitely tell you the steering wheel controls on a camaro are on the big connect not next to the antenna
Now one thing i noticed was my 99 didn't have the controls and there was no wiring or fuse. So i am lead to believe if you don't have the CD changer you wouldn't have those wires either.
maybe I can dig up an old forum post or find my note pad with the wire descriptions.

yeah, if i am reading the diagrams correctly it does seem as if that is the CD connector. The diagram has two connectors. I bet you can have one of two connectors, either 1 CD or the other for the CD plus changer. I know the bigger connect is your speakers and steering wheel controls, etc.
The confusing part is the diagram has a CD Player connector and a Radio C1 connector. One has audio channels the other has speaker channels. Both are a 10 pin connector.
My guess is the two connectors are set up a little differently based on maybe cars with and with out the CD changer.
Didn't the Firebirds come in a 8 or 10 speaker configuration? I know on my Camaros all You have is ! in the door, 1 in the back seat and 1 in the hatch, each side of the car for a total of 6.
you can PM me an email I can send you the diagrams. I got them from some one else when I was adding my steering wheel controls. I honestly can't recall who it was, but someone was nice enough to share, . I have 5 pics.

Well mine doesn't have the cd changer that ive ever seen and my antenna doesn't work right now because i haven't connected the wires in that white harness yet, but that other connector is for a 12 cd changer?

or the factory just put it in with the factory wiring loom, not uncommon to have the wires/connectors but not the accessories..disc changer/foglamps/power windows/locks.....have you tried getting a V.I.S. for the car?

lol i have no idea what that is so more then likely not.
Im guessing thats the dealer look up dealie to tell me all the options that were in the car to see if a 12 disc was a option my car came with?Last edited by 95camaroZNC; 12-01-2009 at 11:47 PM.

harness for changer. 99 Camaros did not have steering wheel controls, a Bird would have but that is not what that is. Even if the car did not have the changer the harness would still be there.
