too much stress
Okay so about a week ago i got my engine rebuilt for $3200 with a 3 year warranty and got it back. NOW.. another problem came up and i just don't have the money to fix it. there is a metallic grind coming from the rear. the brakes, the roaders, wheel bearing, differential fluid are good. so i took it to firestone and they looked at it and told me my rear end is going bad and the axel is ready to fall off.. they gave me a quote of replacing the whole thing for $2700. BULL. There is no way it would be that much. idk what to do.. I can try to sell the firebird or bumm it out and try to save money to get it replace. Any ideas or at least somethin?

Dude my rearend just went out and I am getting one with less than 40,000 miles for $200!!! Do a little searching of the classifieds here and on ther F-Body sites... LS1Tech has a huge classified section. Your in Houston too I am sure you could find a replacement for less than $400 in a week at the most. Dont fret it, half the people who actually drive their LS1 hard have blown their rearend out.

used one should be cheaper, even if you have to pay someone to help you install it.

Yeah look for a used one for sure. They arent too hard to come by. Junkyards and the classifieds here on ls1.com and ls1tech.com are an excellent place to start looking. I dunno if I am supposed to talk about other websites here, but hawksthirdgenparts.com is an online junkyard that has 10 bolts for I think $500... They are gauranteed to work and that seems like a decent not great price. Better than 1100 anyway.

Navy Blue Metallic- 2000 Camaro SS
lol yea if 1100 is a deal o rebuild that rear end I have a bridge to sell ya!! J/K! dont sell the bird!! like everyone else has said check local salvage yards or online. You can get a good used one for 500 tops. make sure its in your year range or check with a local dealer to be sure if it is a different year that everything will work correctly (brakes etc) and since you have to be under there anyhow..nows the chance for a gear swap......

a good mechanical friend - tip?
a cooler of ice cold ones - $40
tool set if you dont have one -$250
jack and stands - $75
doing it yourself.. priceless!!!
lol you know where this is going, turn some wrenches and lean a few new skills. you can change it out in a weekend easy.
ps. pull a part sells whole rear end with disc breaks for $111, $18 to insure it, and $26 if you dont have your core with you.Last edited by jsmith564`; 08-22-2010 at 12:14 PM.

ha thanks guys. yeah i found a salvage yard saying $180 walk out price for a rear end. they said we just have to take it out our selves and have our own supplies. so hopefully when this paycheck comes i can go find one and replace it. next thing on the list is a new alternator. my damm alternator keeps fulxuating. not sure if i spelled that right. i got it checked out and the guy said its bad. Still gotta do body work on the ride too. hey does any1 have magnaflow exaughst on there T/A or bird? i have flowmasters and i think magna sounds alot better than flowmasters. opinions??

I had a Magnaflow stainless cat and muffler on my old Beretta and I liked it. Deep growl but not crackly in my opinion. On a 6 cylinder I would go Magnaflow.
