Throwing an Obd code the First day with it!!!

SHIT Ive had My 02 Z-28 M6 with 65k miles for less than a day and its already throwing a code! the code Im getting is p0420. Grr WTF my guess is the cats, is this a correct asupmtion or do i have a bigger issue. Is this covered under the federal emissions law or do I have to bend over and take this one! thanks for the help guys.

I will have to check but off the top of my head the P0420 code is a front 02 sensor,,,I believe a slow switching code???

Correct me if I'm wrong, I would have to fire up the laptop to double check....but with 65,000 miles on the clock it's time to change the front pair of 02's anyway. Probably the originals as it seems no one changes the darn things on a routine basis as they should....

Thats what i had originally thought but i have heard about some unspoken recall on the 00-02 ls-1 cars that was because of a bad cats? is this a possibility too? My Scanner Read Exactly this P0420 (bank1)

If not, you need that code tuned out.

yes its got the cats, some 60 yr old dude owned it before me and took good care of it. I really wanted to wait to tune the car untill I had done some more mods first. Im guessing I have to send the PCM in to have the cats Removed? I don't have emissions where I'm at so its not a bggie.

Looking up P0420 tells me it's driver side cat converter "low efficiency"

You have some options as others have mentioned,,,gut them,,,headers and off road Y-pipe,,,then have the code tuned out,,,,,or simply replace it with a new one...

Talk to the dealer and have them replace it free.

I talked to the dealer. they are getting replaced when I get back as well as theO2 sensors and a good tune up an d rad flush to get that Dex cool shit out of it. thanks Guys This car is Freaking Awesome
