Third gear death

I was at the track about 3 months ago and the car ran great except for the last run. she launched fine but as soon as i hit third she lost power...literally dropping from 5k to 3k rpm. i thought maybe the clutch gave way, i really did not think much of it at the time. last week i did a dead stop run through the gears and there it went again. i had a buddy in the car that was like shit that sucks dude the car just died in 3rd. if i take off from a roll never does that and runs fine through all the gears 120mph no problem..i just took a 300 mile road trip set the cruise at 75mph for 3hrs ran perfect. As a test, stopped the car only a lonely section of road during that trip and launced her 1st 2nd perfect 3rd...rpm dropped like a rock. the car has 60k only an air lid and a pulley for mods. for a second i thought i had some joker put a marble in the tank..all my high school buds are long gone though..

seriousl any ideas?

If you can duplicate it try pressing the clutch in when it happens. Do the rpms jump back up? What happens if you skip 3rd and go to 4th? Same thing?

it does suck...but if im not in the throttle i would never know. ill try that move tomorrow and tell you how it goes...i had this happen in my wifes car..going down the highway the car would just lose power put it to the floor and it would die. ended up being an o2 sensor but i dont think that is what this is...ill let you know how it goes.
