temp gauge isnt working and dash cluster question

car runs great, doesnt heat up, but the gauge is dead...all others are fine...could it be something simple or should i replace the whole cluster? and if i replace the dash do i have to get my key programmed?

You might have to check under the hood to see if you have a bad temp sensor. I dunno where the sensor is on Mustangs though. Could be mounted in the head, intake plenum or radiator.

You shouldn't need your fob to be reprogrammed if you were to swap clusters.

Is the temp gauge all the way to the left?
My predicament seemed to point towards a bad gauge but it turned out my temp gauge actually gets caught on this piece of plastic to the very left and requires me to tap the dash to get it unstuck. It seems when I go to start it and the gauge resets is when it does this.
