    Synthetic Oils???

I've been running Mobil 1 in the motor since 3000 miles and am considering changing the rear end and gear box over to synthetic as well; just curious if anyone has noticed differences in either mileage or performance after their change over in the rear or gear box. And if so, what brand did you switch to, Mobil, Royal Purple or others.

If this has been addressed, please email the threads.

    Thanks in Advance!

I run Amsoil for the last 3 or 5 years in the rear. No problems.

I just run regular ATF in my t56. Places like six speed inc. that rebuild the T56 trans recommend not using syncromesh type stuff.

Also, Mobil 1 is overpriced garbage that is not fully synthetic. Run Penzoil Platinum instead. Its cheaper and fully synthetic.

hey we both have '99 NBM Z28 M6!!

Just as a note for someone that thinks synthetic is total b.s and is over priced. I use to ask alot of questions to see if it really was better or not, but never got a full explenation.

I worked on a professional drag boat team for 6 years now. We run 500CI keith black Hemi engines and we put down between 7000-8000 HP. We always run Kendel Nitro 70 weight oil with a TFX additive for protection. Our motors turn around 8000RPM at topend of the track. This past year we started upgrading the motor, Raised the compression and added some more boost and we started killin our bearings in the crank. After one 1/4 mile pass the crank bearings started turning blue and blacking the crank. So we switched to a full synthetic oil (Centergon) and I could not believe my eyes. The bearings after a pass looked brand new. Not one scratch or mark, and didnt change colors. So we figured out the Kendel oil was breaking down and the synethic was not. So to me that was proof that synethic is a better oil under a high heat load.

I have run synthetic ever since in everything!!

    +1 for Penzoil Platinum
I use to run mobile one also, but then I read that Penzoil Platinum has a better shearing rate for an ls1. Check the oil analysis

Your describing a better add pack versus the origin of the base oil. So many folks get confused and think "synthetic base oil" did wonders when in reality it was the add pack you could find in "conventional base oil" oils. Happy it worked out for you though.

Torco conventional gear oils return a much lower wear and higher performance in most GM muscle car applications than any synthetic. But whatever gear oils you use just change it our at least once a year or 20K miles. So many run gear oil that has totally depleted their ad packs miles ago.

I am also searching for the answer to this q. I'm thinking there might be a RWHP gain from synthetic drivetrain lube. It might be my next mod!!

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure Mobil1 is fully synthetic. I could be wrong

The term "full synthetic" is not true. I don't think any off the shelf oil is "full" anymore. Amsoil may still be totally synthetic but most others start out from a mineral base as Sarge has stated in his many oil forums. Does not mean the oils are bad, just not "full" synthetic. Many lawsuits won and lost over the termanology of what the manufacturers sell.
