Super Puzzled, please help if you can???
I am super puzzled, please help. Heres the story of my baby. Drove the car around for about 4 hrs in 2 days, everything is great. Park it for a week. I then hop in it after a week of sitting and go to turn the key....BOOM, nothing. No clicking, no nothing. Check battery terminals and they are tight. Try starting again, nothing but all the lights work and voltage gauge is mint. I then try tightning the battery again, to no avail. Hop in and it starts up on the second attempt. But now the security light is on. The light comes on and goes off, on for about 5 miles, off for about 2 miles of driving. The car has great power and is running mint except for the security light being on and off. I drive it about 50 miles last night and then park it. Go to start it in the morning and it starts right away and dies, did this twice and then it has ran great ever since except for the damn light on and off. WHAT COULD THIS BE??? Anyone run into this. Sorry for the long post.

im going to guess one of two things,
#1-The chip in your key is messing up
#2-MAF

I did think about the chip in the key. Its my only key or I would try another. I know they are a decent amount but if it fixes it I wouldn't mind. The MAF was just cleaned about 1000 miles ago with MAF cleaner. Helped alot. My MAF is stock but ported, still screened. I have 75,000 miles on the car.

I don't see how the MAF could do that though. Wouldn't I lose power and wouldn't it run like shit. It runs great, just the light on and starting issues. And thats cheap for a new key, i thought they were more then that. Might go get one tomorrow for that price.

Pewter- 2000 Camaro
I would say it has to do with your VATS with would then be your chip on your key....most likely worn down.
just go to the dealership and get a new one

ya the car will run like shit if its the MAF, but, when my MAF went, had trouble starting the car. This went on for a few days, the car ran fine until i got on the parkway and it shut down and i couldnt restart it. Turned out to be the MAF

i had the same problem with the security system on my tahoe. it would start and die sometimes 10-15 times before it would start and run. it done it about 3 times in a year. i ended up trading it before i ever fixed it. it didnt have a chip in the key though so this is probably not the same thing.

mine was the switch that the key activates on the lower steering column.... $24 at the steelership...

Well, still not fixed. Went to the stealership and they wanted $100 fucking dollars for a key. I don't have that money at the moment, so am going to wait a week or two. Maybe hook up my buddies tech 2 scanner and see if that tells me anything.

if the security light is blinking, i would rule out the MAF and concentrate on the VATS. I disabled mine like the link posted above when i had mine. It also went out in a grand prix I had before the bird... Could be the key; on the grand prix it was the ignition switch side of it. I never fixed it--bypassed it.

go on ebay and get a blank gm vats key, the chip is just a resistor, so if you have a voltmeter measure the resistance of your key "pm me if you need help with this" mark down your resistance and you can go on ebay, search for someone selling it, and they will usually have which key you need coded for the resistance. i did this and bought a key for like 8 buck plus shipping and then wnet and had a copy made...if you need help let me know

My local ACE hardware had a box they put the key in and it told them the resistance.Once you get that number you can get a key on Ebay then take it back to the hardware store to get the key cut.Cheapest way to get a key.But read the posts on the VATS bypass, it looks pretty easy!
