stubborn exhaust stud
hey everyone, my lil bro is putting shoties on his dodge pickup and on the left side of the engine there is 2 studs instead of bolts. he got one stud out but the other is really stubborn, its hard for me to help since i am 1300 miles away, but i have him soaking it in penitrating oil, heating it up and tapping it while trying to turn it. just wondering if you guys have any helpful info. thanks

That is a good idea that you are having him do, not really much else you can have him do. I would just keep soaking it with with PB Blaster for a couple of days and give it a try.

here is one from car craft: heat the stud until it is glowing red, the place a candle on it and the wax will melt into the threads. then it should come right out.

pb blaster will help quite a bit, it's pretty impressive stuff really. I would heat around the stud and not the stud itself. I feel for him. Those are the worst jobs to do when there are rusty bolts/studs involved.

Move 8" over on the shelf from the PB blaster and get the stuff from sea foam called Deep Creep, If you think pb blaster is good then you will love this stuff. And why is he pulling the studs out? unless the threads are goobered up the don't mess with them

thanks everyone, the candle wax is a cool idea but it is horizontal so i dont see how it'll go in. he is taking it out because that is how the manifolds were held in in the middle bolt holes and the stud hits the header tube where it curves down, he could prolly just take off some threads with a hack saw but i would rather just stick some new bolts in there. i feel sorry for him i got those headers for him for his b-day, he is only 15. he is on here too-02sunsetorangeZ
