    Angry spanked

    I got spanked by a guy i work with that has a 98 camaro with just heads cam and stall. also has a 9" with 4.10:1 gears. How can my 383 with all that money in it fail me? What did I do wrong. His is a drag car that has been lightened up quite a bit but damn passed me like i was sittin still.

    He has power, gearing, and a stall. Not surprised. That gearing alone should shave a few tenths off, stall a few more. Power on top of that. He prob has a full suspension as well if he replaced the rear.

    You can't win every race. Find out what he has in that engine and any other mods he has done. Look at it this way, now you have a goal to meet. Dollars, time and effort are all it takes to beat him the next time.

    An auto 4th gen, with heads, cam and a nice stall, can easily be an 11 second car. It's a simple combination that works. Throw in some weight reduction and it's even quicker yet.

    If I remember right, your 383 is an extremely mild build. So it's understandable.

    not for long. retooling as we speak. converter being restalled to 4k and a better cam is in the works. when we spoke earlier about a cam I had asked your opinion but gave you several restrictions mr. firebirdjones. those are off the table now. because i really didnt realize i wasnt near the full potential of my car. so having said that if you had this build what would you use for a cam?

    Yeah the cam and stall are killing it.

    It will be a completely different car with a 4k stall and a cam to match. Go with a custom grind to suit the rest of the combo.

    I agree....you should have your ass kicked for doing all that work and then putting in a baby cam and stall.

    Just another tid bit to add that might help. If you are unsure about who to call for custom cams, (there are many out there that would do a fine job) You could always call Tony at AFR since you run his heads, he would know as much as anyone which cam would work best. That's what I did with the last set of AFR's I used.

    also.....you could keep it on a 114 and still maintain pretty good drivability with it. Really though that comes down to your tuner. No reason that 383 should be getting beat on that badly by a heads/cam stock cubed car. Take that cam out and see if there's some local girl that wants it and sell it to her and then put a man sized cam in there and go kick that guys ass.

    thanks guys... humbled with a side of humiliation. lmao. and orion im gonna use the asa cam for a trot line weight. lol. and in my defense his car is a claimed 1000 lbs lighter.... and the sun was in my eyes.
