SES Light Issue
So the other day my SES light comes on. I go to Advance Auto Parts and get them to scan it and the scanner can not connect to the car. I go to another pasts store and they check it and same thing. The two are not connecting. Other than the light being on, nothing is different about the car. The guy at the store said it might be my link cable or a fuse. Anyone ever experienced anything like this? If so, what would be the best way to go about fixing the problem? If it is a fuse, which one would it be? Thanks in advance for your help!!

You would think that either of those places would be able to tell you if it is a fuse. It may be the cigarette lighter fuse, but I'm not 100% sure. I had this happen on my Grand Am about a month ago as well, and it was a fuse.
I can't think of any other reason.

I don't trust AutoZone or any of the quick scan places. They told me my rear O2 sensor was bad. It was OK, the computer in the car was on it's way to the grave yard.
My advice is to take it to a shop, pay to have them scan it.

I have the HP Tuners scanner myself and as long as my fuse for the OBD II port is good, it works like a charm.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually had to leave this afternoon to go out of town for a few days and leave the T/A behind. However, before I left I was out running some errands and it went off and didn't come back on. Not sure what is up with it. I would think if it was a fuse that it was just stay on??? If it is on when I get back home I will definitely check the fuses. I will keep you updated...thanks again!

The light could have been for a misfire or o2 or something little. Mosty likely you still wont be able to read the logged code.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info. Got back to my car today and checked the fuses...the cigarette lighter fuse was bad so I replaced it and that fixed the problem where the scanner couldnt pick up the computer. the light was an issue with the car running lean....come to find out a vaccuum lined had split. Small piece of hose and problem solved....running stronger than ever now!! Thanks again!!!
