service engine soon light is on

My car runs fine but service engine soon light came on a few days ago. Does it come on periodically ? How can I turn it off ?

Have you made any upgrades to your car. After I initially put on my headers, the light would come on now and then. Also, when your O2 sensors start going out, that could also set off the light.

If you have an Autozone in Georgia head there and they'll do an OBDII scan for free. If your not sure what the code thrown is post it up here and someone will probably know.

Something as simple as the gas cap not on properly can throw an SES

Yeah, tell me about it. This past smog test, I failed the first time! The seal around the gas cap had deteriorated. Went out and bout a new one ($10.00), retested, and passed.

get it scanned at an autoparts store or better yet go to an autoparts store and buy a scanner. It's a great investment. If you buy your own try to find one that works with the CAN protocol since that's what a lot of the newer cars are going to.
They can clear the code at the store or you can if you buy one. Post the code back up and we'll help you get it worked out.

you are using premium in it right? when i went to new orleans a couple weeks ago i left my T/A at my dads, he drove it and put 87 octane in it and it showed up a random cylinder misfire, but since i've had it back 93 octane and no light

nothing but 93 goes in

Does the 2001 still use an air pump? Those check valves go bad a lot, easy fix.

Could be a lot of things like the others said...usually emissions related. Post the code..

Probably just a coincidence...i'd still scan for codes. Even with the light off they're stored in the history so you'll still see them..
