i had that happen to my car , there is a chip in the key and if the key gets wet or dirty it will set the security light . wipe it of and try to start the car . if it does not work your chip on the key may be no good and will need to be replace . my light stay on for about 4 day,s and drain the battery .

so whats the right setting?i have a different looking key for my 1998 ws6.its got 2 little brass looking dots on each side instead of an oval chip.i guess i should touch one probe to one side and the other probe to the other side to get my resistance reading...right?

just did the by pass... car stranded me 18 miles from home on mothersday! LOL. So 1 towtruck ride and a .20c resistor and were up and running again... eventually I will replace the cylinder and rekey. but for now this will get me to and from wk. I recommend taking a reliable ohm meter with you to radioshack. and checking your resistor values by hand and not just off the package.you might have to use more than one in either series or parallel. depending on the OHM value you need. but this bypass works and it is easy. once you have the parts, it is about a 15min job. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE ADDED YOUR RESEARCH AND KNOWLEDGE. YOU HELPED SAVE ME FROM A FINANCIAL BINDE RIGHT NOW! THANK YOU... Jason.D '99 Z-28 198k miles
