Don't use Royal Purple...some of the biggest crap ever made, along with Weapon X Spark Plugs.

Sarge made some threads awhile ago with studies done with the top 10 oils and Royal Purple did the worst in almost all of the tests (heat disipation and wear factor). Do a search and you should find them.

Royal Purple also took a hit for false advertising not too long ago: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...vertising.html

Mobil 1 is fine. But overpriced.

Pennzoil Platinum 10w-30 is the best cheaper off-the-shelf synthetic oil for our cars.
$20 for 5 quarts at Wal-Mart. I think the one by my place actually had it down to $19 last I saw.

I've run 10w-30 the entire life of my car The 5w-30 is more then likely to get a higher MPG out of the meaty LS1 from GM

A thicker weight is better for engines that are ran a little harder than others.

Sarge has covered this before as have I. 5W-30 and 10W-30 are both the SAME thickness at operating temp. The difference, 5W is a little less thick at cold engine start-up than 10W.

Personally, I use 0W-30 so that I get optimum oil flow at cold engine start-up while still protecting as well as 5W-30 or 10W-30 motor oils when the engine is warmed up and under load.

Let me put it this way, the 30 at the end of 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30 means that all three oils have the SAME thickness or viscosity at engine operating temp.

    2001 Z28 (Sara)

I have used Royal Purple exclusivly in both my 01 Z28 (Sara), and my 04 Tahoe, and have had no issues whatsoever. I purchased 5 cases when the price was around $4.30 a quart, and I have enough left for 2 more oil changes. The price is way up now, around $8 + a quart, so I am planning to change brands of oil. I am going to try the new Castrol "Edge", and keep the same weight @ 10W30.

I change my oil every 10K.
