Replaced Fuel Pump, Gas POURING out of cap! Help**

Guys...I need some pros here...so if you dont know what your talking about please do not comment, its just I need to get this pinned down and fixed.

I just had the fuel pump in my car replaced...I filled the tank up and drove home and I have gasoline all down the side of my car and rear bumper!AAHHHHH WTF!

I dont know what the hell to do!The mechanic did mess up the threading on the cap itself but there is a valve the doesnt allow gas to come up through the neck so I am thinkin it has to be a pressure issue...(I say this because when we dropped the tank we tilted it to drain the gas out throught the neck and it would not becasue of the valve...so how in the hell would gas coming out now! I need some ideas guys quick...my beatiful paint job is getting destroyed not to mention I have gasoline misting the rear of my car! Luckily I dont smoke!

Well the car runs just fine I have prob put about 40 miles on it since it has been done...I am thinking like a vent hose is kinked or something...I just cant imagine how gas is traveling upward for one and out through the cap when I tried pouring it out the same "avenue" and it would'nt come out? Has to be a pressure issue...I dont know...I am suppose to take the car back over to the mechanic whom I assisted in doing it...He is a great mechanic and is a head mechanic at a gm dealership...has a lift and everything...Just wanted to get some thoughts from ppl, I have no idea...

I may be wrong, but I think the "valve" is more of a flap that works off of garvity. It is supposed to keep gas from pouring out if the car was to roll over.
