I would try to pull the fuse or relay for about 20 seconds, replace it then start it and see if it's gone.

you don't need a scanner
swiped from another site:
To list your codes, turn the ignition key to the ON position, but don't start the engine. Clear any present DIC messages (like Door Ajar, or Service Steering Column) by pressing the RESET button. Then hold the OPTIONS button down, while pressing the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC.
The computer will automatically display all the codes your car is or has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. You can watch it display codes for every module in your car. If you want to write them down, go ahead. Any code that ends in H is a history code - something that has occurred in the past but is fine now. The computer is very sensitive and would throw a code if you turned the radio off while tuning it.
Once the computer has finished going through all of it's automatic codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES". If it shows a number of codes, press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES".

well... I had it scanned... um...since I didn't read the forum till now... and it has a whole bunch of problems that have history but are still current... so we are looking at quite a bit of money in repairs...it's mostly sensos and such that have gone bad...
we scaned it with a HPTunner... and well thanks for the responses... I guess it's up to us now to fix it all

clear them and wait until they come back. vettes are notorious code throwers. "no communication" codes and tire sensor codes along with bcm codes. Pretty common. Tell your buddy before he does anything to first check the cowl drain. It gets clogged and is right above the pcm so when it gets clogged up water runs down onto the pcm. Ask him if he's turned the water hose on the engine lately. Is the car running badly?

just clear the codes and wait and see what happens. Vette's throw a lot of codes period. At least the ones I've been around. Tell your buddy that the water goes on the outside of the car. It's just a bad idea in general to hose off an engine now days. I don't want to start a wash/don't wash the engine thread out of this but that's my personal feelings towards it. These engines ain't like the old small blocks......way more electronics on board now days and sure they have weather connectors but shit happens. Ask all the people that have killed their knock sensors washing their engine what they think.
Just clear them and see what happens.
