Rebuild or replace steering?
Ive replaced both my outer tie rod ends but I still have a nasty pop sound when turning left to right. It does it the worst when the key is on, engine is off and you turn the wheel left to right. Its got play in it as well from this. I can get both inner tie rods and hope this cures it or should I break down and get a whole new assembly ?
EDIT:I can get a brand new short rack for 360 bucks. Tie Rods another 68 bucks a peice.Last edited by JoshieDoom; 07-30-2008 at 09:21 PM.

Your best bet is to have someone under the car while you turn the wheel from lock to lock to see if they can pin point where its poping from. Otherwise your just going to throw parts and money at the car hoping that it will fix it.

Good point. If you jack it up you should be able to narrow it down with a friend.

Its popping on the inside of the steering rack. Dead in the middle.

I think im going to buy the center section and build it one piece at a time. Should be around 500ish after the aligment to get it all done. Might as well get a ws6 one as well with the cooler The thing falls apart at 150xxx on the dot.

sounds like your U-joints. I when I have that problem (although its my diesel truck but its quite similar) I just re-tight them.

MOST DEFINATELY NOT the u-joints. You can pinpoint the sound exactly and its in the middle of the rack setup. Everything is very tight from the input shaft up.
