There are a couple things that could be wrong.
    1. Make sure you have the filter seated in the box right, you'd be surprised how many poeple don't get it all back together right
    2. K&Ns are known for not always fitting in the camaro and t/a air box, try putting your original filter in with the new lid and see how it fits

My whisper lid was a tight fit too - make sure it's pushed all the way back into the tabs, and the front of the lid is inside the lower lip of the air box.

After adjusting the k&n for awhile its fitting a little better. It just seems like the rubber that surrounds the K&N is too thick or something. Thanks alot for all of the suggestions!

Be careful closing that hood also. Aftermarket lids tend to rub on the underside of the hood if they don't seal properly like it seems yours may not be doing. I used AC foam on the underside of the hood right where the lid touched on my 2nd lid and it prevented scratching from occuring on the lid.

You wouldn't technically need one...but I highly recommend it for 3000+ stalls, the added "slippage" in the TC makes a decent amount of heat...better safe then sorry. I have a stock stall so far...puttin a cooler in soon.

As for the lid...I have slp lid also with a k&n, you just have to work it on there. Make sure the tabs on the lid are all the way in the back notches, it takes a little force...at least it did for me. When it's on right the camps will close like normal

For any aftermarket stall I'd get a cooler - cheap insurance and easy to install yourself. The B&M 24K is a favorite and comes with everything you'll need - most sponsors and local speed shops sell them.
