    Pulley

    i have a pulley thats making some noise dont know which one it is yet but does anyone know how hard it is to change or have done it before? or should i take it in to a shop to get it done? the sound is comin from the bottom area jus hope its not the alternator aaaaaaaaahhh!

    My alt did the same thing... Hopefully not... I threw 3 atls in 1 month... Sucked ass... Thank god it was late spring... Not this cold ass winter BS

    Also I did mine in my driveway on some ramps... Fairly easy to do yourself... Don't waste the $ on a shop visit for it... Just be careful of the clips and wires.

    Check your idler pulleys. You have two of them. You also have two tensioners. My money is on those being bad.

    Take your belts off and spin each pulley by hand and see if you can pinpoint where its coming from. Once you figure out which pulley it is, I would personaly just change it.
    Shops charge entirely too much and anyone around here can give you step by step instructions.

    Could also be the belt. Wet it and see if the noise stops.

    mine was the idler pulley below the ac compressor. 38 bucks from gm parts direct. it got so bad the belt would slip off. lol

    thanks for the back up, and my bad for taking so long. yea at autozone they have the stethoscopes the earphone things so i can isolate the sound ill keep u guys posted on this operation!

    Everyone should have one in the tool box They are great for isolating noises.

    Moving parts are a no no. Have to put it on the bolt or bracket attatched to the affending pulley.
