please help with a/c system problem....

the dude before me pulled the a/c from the car, he left the condensor but thats it. i got al the stuff from a friend and installed it yeterday. i just used the green a/c o-rings that auto zone had. i installed it, and charged it, i didnt vacume it cause i wanted to first make sure its all gonna work and hold.

after it was all done it was blowing 39 degrees air in the car. all night. the pressure gauge i used to fill it with showed 45psi last night.

today its at 35 and the air is not as cold, it comes and goes, cold, warm. so my question is, are the regular a/c o-rings ok or do i need the metal ring type with rubber inside them that are $8 ea at the dealer??????

i figure it has to be leaking from somewhere. cause it was blowing ice cold yesterday but not today.

Sounds like you either need to charge the system with ac dye or use a leak detector to isolate the leak.

if the o-rings you used are not for r-134a refrigerant they could be leaking.

no they are for r134a, they just arnt metal rings with rubber inserts like the stock ones. the guy at the auto part store said i can use the regular r134a rings and the cruch the same.

In theory as long as it seals off it should be alright, but I always use the specified o-rings for the job. You need to find out exactly where you are loosing freon. If the condensor was left in the vehicle it's possible there may be a small leak in the condensor, you just have to find out where exactly.

As was mentioned previously, try getting some more 134 to fill the canister but make sure it has the die in it. Usually they have ones they sell with a black light so you can see where the leak or leaks are coming from.
