Painting Brakes Prep Work
So, I bought some 18" black Z06 wheels last year and after I mounted them the brakes & rotors behind them look like $hit cause they were dirty & rusted. With a little free time this weekend I decided to take the brakes apart on my SS and attempt to paint them. What a pain in the a$$ ...... it took me 3+hrs to prep the drivers side setup in the rear!!!
I was wandering if anyone had any tips or recommended tools they used to make the job go a little faster other than old fashioned elbow grease.....
BTW .... it's a black 98SS with 68,000miles so its not show condition but I got a good deal on EBAY last year and couldn't pass it up. I don't even think the previous owner ever replaced the brakes!!! WTF....but it makes for a great weekend car so i want to clean it up a bit

I used brake cleaner and then used a dremel with a brush attachment. Are you using brush on paint or spray paint? The brush on paint is a little more forgiving but doesn't look as good as the sprayed paint IMO. I've done them with both and they looked better with the spray but the brush on was easier. If you're spraying them take care not to touch the caliper after you clean them unless you use a rag to pick them up or your hands are very clean. It'll cause the spray paint to "fisheye" if you get any dirt or oil on them.

+1 for Orions comments plus if they are on the car try not to get paint on the face of your rotor... looks bad and can smoke and cause premature glazing if you get too much paint on the rotors
