The Mellings are the best we can get then theres the SLP pump imo. The ls6 pumps are better than stock but nothin on Melling! More volume and increased pressure ive got a failing lifter and a rod bearing fixen to spin but perfect op. with Melling wouldnt use any other pump. My 2

My opinion...these engines aren't real famous for oiling problems, as far as I know. So a good ported LS6 is just fine in most situations.
And remember, it takes more horsepower to run a high volume oil pump, and if your oil level gets low you run slightly more risk of sucking the oil pan dry, and your pumping more oil up the heads where it isn't really needed. if it doesn't drain back real fast it might find its way seeping through the valve seals.

Melling has two diffrent pumps high volume that comes with two springs for pressure and they have a high pressure pump. Theres two diff. part numbers dont have them off hand gota find them. But a built 408 needs one. People say thay can empty the pan in super high rpm runs but I havent had any probs.
