Oil Filters and Racing oil and Accumulators

Whats the best oil filter for the buck and how good are the remote mounted paper towel/toliet paper type of oil filters. I've heard alot about how thats what the goverment uses on their vechiles because of their excellent filtration. I'm also wondering if your going to run your car at the track would your car be better protected by 20w50 racing type oil instead of your regular driving on the highway type weight of oil. I mean if you know your going bracket racing on Friday nite shouldn't you be running a heavier weight oil. Especially in this summer heat? Is it alright to run it a 1/2 Quart over?

Another thing I'm wondering about is the oil accumulators I see for sale in the different car part catalogs. I've spun a rod bearing in my last two shortblocks and I would like this one to last. And any device that can sense my oil pressure dropping and supply a pressurized oil supply if my oil pressure falls to low sounds like insurance to me! But I've never seen anybody running one.

Viscosity should never be changed between the track and the highway. You just want to make sure your protected at higher oil temps and your oil is not shearing to a 20wt etc. In a LS1 I'd use a 10-30 Pennzoil Platinum or RedLine 10-30 and your golden...as for your filter...I really like AC Delco or Purolators...both excellent filtration and flow.....Bypass filters only add value for 25K OCI's and have no place in your ride....if your flat tracking or oval racing and running your oil out of your pan then yes a modified pan with baffles to keep the oil in the pickup and or a Accusump pre oiler with a low pressure switch will protect you from running the oil out of your pan and eating bearings......

+1 on the Purolator Pure 1 filters. Great filter at a normal price. Better than KN, Mobil 1 overpriced filters. I keep meaning to get an Accusump for dry starts, but never seem to get around to it.

Good filter. Overpriced for what it is.
