take your car to autozone... they will do a free scan and tell you what parts are needed... don't buy them there though... our sponsors have them cheaper...

I'm not sure autozone can read service vehicle codes, only service engine soon codes. Worth a try though...

Mine will come on at idle.

AutoZone will NOT be able to tell you what the problem is. A GM Tech II device needs to be plugged in to determine what is causing it.

It isn't for day time running lamps on my T/A.
Although I got that light in my 2001 Grand Am when I had a headlight out.

isnt service vehicle another way of telling you to change the spark plugs, check the wires, timing etc... in other words service vehicle?

Don't take this the wrong way...

But how would the car know the plugs need changed? Obviously if it had a misfire, but it sounds like this car is running okay.
And I know mine is as well. But I get that light if my car sits and idles (warm or cold) for more than 1-2 minutes.

    Little info....

The 'Service VEHICLE Soon' light indicates problems outside of emissions and driveability. The BCM (Body Control Module) usually is in involved with SVS lights. It can come on for IPC, airbag, DRL, and automatic headlight problems. Different cars have different uses for the SVS light and the reason it specifically comes on for f-bodies I'm not sure.
OBDII scanner won't help you with a SVS light

just for argument's sake.. I always wondered what this light was for--never actually encountered it outside of seeing it light up when starting the car. Had to replace DRL housings, sockets, bulbs... never had this light (svs) come on the whole time i owned car.. DRL's and turn signals were f'd up for a while..
