Need answer to this..ASAP

I am going to do the simple green thing to my engine bay, but I have 1 question. On my hood is attached a blanket like thing. I guess for installation, anyways, Is it just for appearences or do I need it?

it's a fire blanket-you'll never need it. if the engine catches onfire, the plastic pins melt and the blanket falls to smother it.

I couldn't do my engine bay clean up, After I got all the stuff together, The Rain Gods decided to screw me and rain the rest of the afternoon. So I might get to do it Wed.
