    motorcyle help - exhaust question

So I recently bought my first bike. It's a 02 yamaha v-star 650. It has an aftermarket exhaust (possibly bub) and was rejetted. Not sure if they did intake filter or anything else.

Well, one of my neighbors buddy (who used to work at a mc shop) walked over and we started talking. I told him how it could be a little louder and he informed me about removing the baffles. I figure what the hell, being louder is more visible.

We pull these things out which was a pita. They're about 2 feet long.

Talking with several people since, they've stated that I'm doing more harm than good and should put the baffles back or possibly rejet the carb again so that I do not lean the motor out.

Well, I don't think these baffles will go back in as they were pretty snug. Don't want to be rubber malleting them in putting stress on the header bolts.

Does this sound like it will cause a lean condition that would damage the motor? Started reading this, but still confused

I did this to my bike as well, I was told the same thing you were. No back pressure leading to it leaning out.

I don't know how much of an issue it is on your '02, but on my carbed '83, I could fix it easily. I ended up putting the old muffler back on, and just said f' it.

If I knew I could fit it back in I would. Do I heat up the exhaust and put the baffles in the freezer to expand/contract?

The baffles are 2feet long and super snug.

    ?

I hate to tell you yes or no. I guess if it's ruined anyways, it can't hurt trying.

I'd probably start looking into some louder aftermarket set-ups.

Good news. I took some low grit sandpaper and removed all the carbon buildup that I could. Took the bike out for a ten min ride and it had expanded enough to get the baffles back in.

Don't know why, but it seems when I had the baffles out the idle dropped.

Anyways got it back in so all is well. Thx
