I would buy a wrecked vehicle with a 6.0 Then you will have all the needed parts. After install you can have it tuned and you should be on the road.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

You have a few options. Getting a whole car is on the sorta extreme side becasue of the "What you going to do with the unneeded stuff?"

1st check my thread in the signature. It can give you a good idea on how to go with the build. I would read all to see all the hick ups that went with it too.

    What to look for:
Best option is 99-04 LQ4 or 9's. Pre-99 have a shorter crank (LT1 style) and about mid 04 on have 58x reluctor wheel instead of 24x (what our cars run, more on that later). There are some LQ9's that are 24x after 04 but you will need to really look for them.

If you do get a 58x reluctor wheel you can either swap it out or buy a convertor (Expensive). Some companies will sell the e cm & wire harness with the the engine. Look at it being a tad bit more. Frost (tunebyfrost.com) sells ecms. Wire Harness - FBJ knows of another company that sells them, I just know of Painless Performance wiring. They run about $600-1000 depending on what options you need.

There really is no true budget build. It may start out as one but they can easily balloon, believe me I know.

The other option is ordering a crate motor that is built to what you want. Short blocks go for about $3800 and long go for $6000. That's delivered and ready to drop in.

Feel free to ask away with me any more questions or if you need more details.
