Like said above just a Rpo code.
First came out in 97 in the vettes, then in 98 in the f body.
To GM its known as a GEN 3 block. To keep it simple hot-rodders and so forth call it lsx or ls1. In 91 and 92 Gm actualy started designing the block we now call the ls1/6/2 and so forth.
