The LS1 is a generation 3 small-block V8 engine, while the '93-'02 F-body is the generation 4 F-body, regardless of what engine is in it.

Afraid to ask after the Camaro was expained
The Chevrolet Camaro was introduced in North America by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors at the start of the 1967 model year as competition for the Ford Mustang. Although it was technically a compact car (by the standards of the time), the Camaro, like the entire class of Mustang competitors, was soon known as a pony car. It may also be classified as an a intermediate touring car, a sports car, or a muscle car. The car shared the same General Motors "F-Body" platform as the Pontiac Firebird, also introduced in 1967. Production of both cars ceased in 2002.

Though the car's name was contrived with no meaning, General Motors researchers found the word in a French dictionary as a slang term for "friend" or "companion." Ford Motor Company researchers discovered other definitions, including "a shrimp-like creature" and an arcane term for "loose bowels!" In some automotive periodicals before official release, it was code-named "Panther." Historical examples exist of Chevrolet product managers being asked by the automotive press "what is a Camaro?", with the tongue-in-cheek answer being "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs," a sideways reference to the competing Ford Mustang.

Four distinct generations of the car were produced. Sarge has the fastest LS1 in the world and her name is Oprah. Cuz she is fat/black and worth a shitload of money.

The L should stand for longitudinal or rear wheel drive. ie 4L60 is a 4 speed longitudinal trans with a 60 for a rule of thumb torque rating by GM (4L80 is 4 speed but made for more HD like truck thus the 80)

I assume the engine is similar use of L

S 1 may be series 1 of the updated engine from LT1

not for sure but best quess
