    LS1 Tachometer

    Hi Guys,,

I'm wondering if anybody can help me with this:

I have a VDO Xtreme Performance Tach Gauge and would like to install it on a LS1 engine

but some one told me that its difficult becouse the LS1 ignition is Coil on Plug (COP).

So any help in installing this tachometer will be appreciated

Not sure how to do it, but it's possible - seen LS1's with aftermarket tachs and shift lights. Maybe tap into the Engine Speed (Tach) Output Signal wire coming off the PCM? Here's the pins/colors for a 2K model for example, other years may be different: www.ls2.com/boggs/torques/00pinpcm.htm Don't know if this helps or not...

I installed the Stewart Warner Ultra Shift Light and wired to the PCM. Not sure on your type tach but I would think the instructions would indicate one way or the other.

for f-bodies, you connect the tach lead to the #10 white wire coming out of the PCM.

Yes its the white number 10 wire from the pcm. I was surprised to learn just how inaccurate the stock gauge really was. Its off 100 rpm at idle and as much as 300 rpm at 4000 rpm.
