    LS1 Swap

I am looking to swap my stock 350 with an LS1 and I am wondering if anyone knows what I need to watch out for. The motor is going to go into a 71 chevy half ton pick up.....Might be on the wrong site but I figured I would give it a shot.

Stay away from 98's and below they had issues. Try to find a 01 up if possible as they had the LS6 intake. Try to find a complete pullouot with trans accessories computer etc. It will actually save you time and money trying to get it all together. Several companies sell wiring harness capable of marrying LS1 and old school wiring. Shouldn't have fitment issues with the accessories given the canaverous room under your hood. Try to find an Fbody source so you dont have to trade oilpans, and throttlebodies. Corvette LS1 oilpans had wings on it and the throttlebodies are drive by wire not conventional cable operated. Of course the LS1 won't bolt to older trans without adapters and the motor mounts are different. Other than that Have fun.

You will need a complete wiring harness from somebody like Painless Wiring. Check the sponsors-> You might need a differnet oil-pan and other miscellaneous crap, but the engine itself will bolt-in fairly easily.

So here is a picture of the LS1 I am going to buy. I am paying $500 dollars for it. It is missing some parts and I am not sure where the alternator goes. I have been looking at pictures trying to figure it out but every picture I have seen has a pulley between the crank shaft pulley and the power steering pump pulley....is it missing or is it neede? The alternator is on the bottom but the resevior for the power steering pump is in a different place. Does anyone have a picture that i could reference. Thanks

Never mind.......pictures will not upload for some reason. email me at
