ls1 overheat problems
I have a 98 Trans Am. (Ls1 5.7/auto)
It overheats after running for about 5-10 min. When driving, the check gages light comes on and the car has complete power loss (no power steering, brakes, engine stalls.)
So I replaced the thermostat, water pump, and radiator cap last week. no luck
Both fans are working fine and no noticeable coolant leaks.
The oil looks fine, no coolant mix. No smoke out of the tail pipes(white/black).
I was wondering if it could be a coolant temp sensor or if the Cat converter could cause a problem like this ?
Is there a way to bleed/purge the air out of the coolant system?
What's the cause of it overheating?
Any suggestions or advice on how to fix the problem could be helpfull.

Should be able to bleed/purge from the TB coolant hose. Radiator could be plugged. How many miles on the car?

I'm going to give that a shot.

Need to pressure test the cooling system. Are you losing coolant? Need to get the codes read and find out what codes are being set also before proceding.

I bleed the coolant system from the TB and it runs great.
must of had to much air in the system.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Now it runs at a 180 highway/city.
I already have a BMW under my belt this season...lol
Some dork, in a BMW with a huge spoiler and muffler thought he could take the LS1.
I even gave him a car lenght head start
