    LS1 oil pressure

HELP!... 2001 Z28 AUTO, stock motor with 56K miles. The oil pressure is high (60+psi) when first started cold. After warming up, during driving it lowers to around 40psi and when sitting still it drops down to around 20psi. I just bought the car, is this normal?

some say yes..if shouldnt drop to 20. I would start looking into a ls6 oil pump..they are pretty cheap and are solid oil pumps..unlike the ls1 oil pump.

ls6 oil pump is a direct bolt on. and is just as good as a aftermarket pump.

I have a 02 ws6 that I bought new. Have never had problems with the motor until this morning. It has 62000 miles on it and has had the oil and filter changed every 3000 miles. Went out this morning and started it up and setting their at idle it spit a rod out of the pan. I can't beleive it! Has anyone had problems like this with the ls1.

Drove it home last evening and it was fine, no noise. went out this morning and started it, sounded fine and then just a lot of noise. shut it off got out and could see oil under car. Jacked it up and you can see a hole in the pan. Where do you go to find a motor for these cars!

Bought my 01 formula LS1 October a year ago with a rod thru the side of the block. I got it from the original owner had right at 100K miles on it religiously maintained and the owner swore up and down he got into the car that morning not abusing the car and bang it happened the same way as you described.

Oh My God,Sunday morning and I'm reading Horror stories worse than the nightly news!Sorry to hear about the broken rod!
As for oil pressure, oil viscosity will change pressure, as well as temp, rpm, etc. There used to be a general rule that you shold get 10psi for every 1000rpm, never to fall below 20psi.So if it's a very hot day 20 psi may not be bad. Also the increments on the gauge are not that precise either. In your case,I don't think I'd worry about it.But since you just bought it,I'd get an oil change.

I got the oil changed about 500 miles ago. I got it done at the dealership I work for, I assume they used bulk 5w20. Should I get it done again with Synthetic oil? what grade is best recommended? Royal Purple? Moble1?

i would use 5 or 10w- 30, and always go with synthetic.
