LS1 to LS6 Valley Cover Converstion
Have a couple of questions about this conversion for those that have done this.
I've order the following:
GMPartsDirect
Part # 12577927 COVER, LS6 VALLEY
Part # 12589867 SENSOR, KNOCK X2 YR99
Part # 12601822 WIRE HARNESS, KNOCK YR99
WS6store
Catch Can, Billet Aluminum
I'm using the Ls1howto thread
http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18
Q1 - Valve cover plug on the drivers side. It states - "since we've got a new PCV port on the LS6 valley cover, we don't need the stock LS1 PCV system. On the rear of the drivers side valve cover, part of the LS1 PCV hose plugs into a grommet. Using a flathead screwdriver, pry it out, and plug the grommet with the GM part 12568011"
http://www.ls1howto.com/howto/geniii/ls6pcv/grommet.jpg
Dos this mean I need to pull the grommet out and plug the hole or plug the grommet?
Q2 - Will this work to plug the Valve Cover?
http://www.mr-gasket.com/ProductDeta...txtSearch=6376
Q3 - In this pic below - the port on the passenger side. They used the orange plug, will this hold up to the heat and crank case pressure to block off the valve cover or do your recommend something else to block it off?

The grommet you link will not work because it has a hole in. You need to get a cap or plug that fits. You can remove the L shape rubber piece and take it to the auto parts so you can get an idea of how big it needs to be.
As for the red cap I will put a different plug on it. A 3/8" rubber plug will work.
Someone will chime with the right plug size for the grommet.

I'll be watching this thread! I'm going to be doing this soon. Nice thing about mine is its a LS6 block so no need to grind away part of the block.......save some time and stress

To clarify - The Mr Gasket link showed 2 parts, one was the grommet and the other was the plug that comes with the kit.
Thanks for the input. As soon as I get my parts I'll be doing this. Also I realized yesterday I shorted a knock senosr in my orginal order, had to order the second one a couple of more days waiting
I'll post pics and posts.
And YES Orion I'll remember the OPSU this timeLast edited by SMWS6TA; 02-01-2011 at 09:49 AM.
