The block it self is slightly different, a stronger alloy, and better oiling/scavenging... I've been told the better oiling is good for about 5-10hp, but the main difference is the heads and cam.

I'd look at getting a set of ported/polished and milled 243 heads and around a 224 114lsa cam if you want a very good bump in power but stock manners and sound. If you want alittle choppy idle and a little bigger bump in power I'd look at a 228 112lsa cam

thank you... because the ls6 is a slight stronger than the ls1 does that mean that it might be to much power for it? or should i be fine...

nope, the ls6 is a slightly better alloy, but you or I would never beable to tell the difference...both can hold ALOT of extra power

Check if you have the LS6 block already. Majority of the 02 models have them so all you need really is the LS6 heads not 243 heads and a later Z06 cam. If you haven't informed already you also have LS6 intake being a 02 model.

It was about 25% LS6 blocks not "the majority" in 02 and other than a more agressive cam and 243 heads everything else is identical in 02 between a LS1 and LS6.

for simplicity's sake yes...but as i know you know. the windows are larger increasing the block's breath-ability and flow. along with the stronger alloy.

Well technically you are correct. The ls6 block has larger bays cast in the bulkheads to help keep the oil from aereoating at high rpm.

I was basically refering to the ability to make power......

did any one mention the valley cover? The LS1 doesn't have that fancy cool LS6 valley cover, . I didn't notice any one mention that.

you may find this a good read. i loved it. someone was kind enough in one of my threads to share it with me.

While EVERY Gen III motor is dominate to convensional SB motors, the LS6 does have its advantages. Here is a few that I've searched out and found to be true. While I type this....the LS1 block is just fine for damn near every practical purpose. If your not a hardcore drag racer, you more then likely won't benefit from a different block.

    A: LS6 Block is stronger
B: LS6 Block is slightly different color (Darker in color)
C: #12561168 part number for the LS6 block found behind the Driver side head ( will need a mirror and some good angles to see, easiest when the head is off)
D: LS6 block has 87% more ventilation versus an LS1 block between the rod/crank webbing resulting in decreased crankcase pressure and increased piston ring sealing.
    E: 15% of 2001's got the LS6 block, 25% of 2002 got the LS6 block
F: LS6 block is made with different aluminum, which is why the color difference. Increases strength and weights less then LS1
G: Power increase over LS1 is said to be between 5 - 15 rwhp depending on who you talk to.
H: LS6 block has approximately 500 more usable RPM's due to the ventilation.
I: LS6 uses a different casting process then the LS1 resulting in tighter tolerances all around.
J: LS6 has better oil flow at higher RPM's resulting in less internal wear.

Thats all I can remember off hand. YOU WANT THE LS6 if you can find it, far superior block. I was lucky enough to find out I had one when I pulled the Heads off to do my H/C.

Part number for LS6 intake off of F-Body is #12561184
Part number for LS6 intake off of Z06 is #12573572

mine put down 387.8 rwhp with just cat back... i was told my stock exhaust manifolds were choking me up... so i'd guess that i'm over 400 rwhp with the addition of my LT headers...
