LS1 Fbody hunt, what to look for?
Decided to get rid of my 06 silverado 4x4, its a great truck with low miles, but I have decided I want a F-body, becuase im finally old enough to afford the insurance and have a clean driving record.
WS6, SS, Z28, doesnt really matter
I want a 6 speed car, with low miles (i.e. around 60,000)
I understand that the 01-02 incarnations of these cars are the best due to better rod bolts, LS6 intake, etc.
I have a budget of around $10,000
Anyone think I can find a CLEAN CAR, that HASNT BEEN RACED OR DOGGED OUT in my price range? Do they exist?
What should I look for?

there out there, just be patient and make sure you get what you want. the rears on these cars are horrible so check for some sound coming out of the rear

Prices on our cars have come way down lately. You can find some very nice cars for $10,000.

im going to take my time and search, going to clean the truck up this week and go ahead and put it in the paper, have a maxima to drive while i search so i wont be out of a vehicle.
So jack up the rear and let the tires roll and listen for any whining sounds from the rear? good advice,
will probably fully weld the axle tubes to the diff and install a rear end cover that supports the main caps put all new bearings in and use the solid pinion spacer just for cheap insurance
car will not be raced or see DR's or Slicks, just daily driving and the occasional interstate jaunt, i.e. no long smoky burnouts or powershifting, rather save all that for when its paid for, and i have spare cash to put in a 12 bolt or 9", might even build my own mounting brackets with the plasma cutter and mig, then bolt in a 8.5 ten bolt, know PLENTY of 10 sec cars running those axles (though none of them are 4th gen f-bodys)
chevy should have never put that weak rear end in the car, should have at least got the 8.5 10 bolt
anything else?Last edited by gmbob25; 03-14-2010 at 04:15 PM.
