    ls1 or 6.0 witch should i pick

Hey all i had to sell my prized camaro after 4 years but now i am saving up for my new project. I am going to get a 96-2000 trans,am after some money saving. Problem is i have not messed with any kind of ls power plant and need some help. Should i get and mod up a ls1 or the 6.0. What are the pro,s and cons verses one or the other. It,s going to be a street driven car with maybe a super charger a few year,s down the road. Any advise will be helpful.

    thanks

    Sadly now demodded :(

96/97 is an LT1. 98-2000 is LS1. Personally, I'd look for a 2001 or 2002 as they have better exhaust, no EGR and an LS6 intake to start with.

I'm sure others will chime in as time goes on.

I agree but if he's going to replace the engine the year won't matter much.
Just get the best LS equipped car for the money.
And if it was me I'd do a 6.0 but it would have to be aluminum (LS2).
The larger bore of the 6.0 opens up more potential. And as far as heads are concerned you can then run L92/LS3 square port heads which flow better then most aftermarket cathedral port heads. And their cheap !!!

if only i knew about the 01s-02s before i bought mine. but then again i am still overall happy with my car. 6.0 ls cast will be a stronger platform than any 5.7 and the head options arent limited also which again is a huge plus. ltx builds do well but the lsx line has a lot more to offer n/a.

Correct me if i,am wrong but a ls1 is a 5.7 right? I kinda live but the rule no replacement for displacement. Thats why i was kinda thinking about the 6.0 route. Also how do you pull the engine in one of these things i have heard that you have to pull it from the bottom. Keep the info coming..

I took my 5.7 out the top, and put an iron block LQ9/317 heads in. LQ9 are 10:1 6.0 flat top piston engine from GM. The LQ4 are aluminum 9:1 compression I think, and a 6.0 . Both engines you can find for cheep in good condition at most salvage yards. You cant go wrong with a bigger bore.
