    LS Engines...which fit?

I was talking cars with a guy at work and I happened to mention the new LS3 (the one that is in the ZR1, right?). Well, he asked if I would ever put that or an LS7 in my Trans Am and it got me thinking...do all of the LSx motors fit in my car?

I know the LS1 and LS2 do without any problems (direct bolt in), but what about the LS3 and LS7?

the motors will bolt right in. PCM and harness changing for the LS3 and LS7 are in order.

The stock LS1 can't be tuned for the engine?

the LS1, LS6 have the cam and knock sensors in the same location. the LS2 moved them. you can get a harness adapter for those. the LS3 and LS7 have a different reluctor ring on the crankshaft 52x instead of 36x. so the PCM will misinterpret the crank signal and not start.

    So the LS1/2/6 have a 36x reluctor ring? I thought it had a 24X

Cause Texas Speed sells the LS3/7 with either 24 or 58, neither will work with the LS1 computer?

All the same size. And by the way it's not an LS3 in the ZR1. It's an LS9. LS3 is in the standard c6 now.

LS9 is basically an LS3 to the extent that....you can make an LS3 into an LS9. i believe.

Yeah essentially the LS3 is the same as the LS9. I believe the compression is different and other little differences.

There are quite a bit of the LS9 components that are different then the LS3's to hold up the the Boost.

Correct and so does the LS9. LS3 still uses a wet sump system.

Can it be converted to a wet system if the crank is a wet system crank?
